You definitely deserve the first place you won. Very, very well done. Also, very nice and creative depiction of the "awakening of the ugly truth." Oh, and nice touch placing the radiation symbol in the eyeball!
This is remarkable work, truly. The texture of the monster's skin is amazing and very realistic. I can almost feel the heat and cough on the smoke coming from him. That said, however, I honestly do not see very much correlation between your awesome artwork and the "Make Ugly" contest theme to make smoking look as nasty and ugly as it really is. In my opinion, I see more of a city being torn apart by a demon, possibly even Satan himself, than the monstrous effects of smoking. I guess I just do not see enough elements that make me think of smoking as being disgusting, so to me the message is not that clear. If I didn't know what the contest theme was then I would have thought that this was a really awesome comic or movie about a demon terrorizing a city. I think maybe it would have looked awesome if you made the monster look like a cigarette butt or even a cigar.
Anyway, aside from all of that this is just freaking amazing and I will be requesting this for a couple of my groups. Congratulations on your big win!
How is this related to smoking? it was a competition that you should show the ugliness of smoking with a monster. By getting inspired from the key facts that i ve also given down below. When i look at this artwork, i cant really think of this could be something related to smoking. It looks more like a movie Banner. It also makes me imagine "Brand" from League of Legends or the Fire monster from "Infamous 2". Those two guys carries a bag that has a smoking happy face, but its so small. this is the only relation to smoking. You have to look really carefully to understand. Aside from the fact that this artwork became #1 in a smoking related competition, its really well rendered, really good composition. Dont get me wrong, i am not mad or anything. I havent even entered this Competition. Its a great artwork, but i cant say that this is the Ugly monster and the Truth that this competition has been seeking for.
Anyway congratz for victory.
secondhand smoke (not really visible in this artwork), radioactive Polonium-210(the eye of the monster has radioactive logo), 1 in 3 teens who begin smoking eventually die(it doesn't exist), One tobacco company biologically engineered tobacco plants to have twice the normal level of nicotine(i cant see a mutated plant)
Definitely worth first place. The level of detail is amazing, from the radioactive eye to the lighting from the lava to the cityscape in the background. Well executed with the cigarette references, as well.
